At Open Minds safeguarding encompasses all that we do, as such all staff are trained to a minimum advanced safeguarding children level 2 and PREVENT trained, the designated L3 Safeguarding Leads are Rebecca and Lianna.

All staff and volunteers working with Open Minds must have an enhanced DBS certificate and any visitors to Open Minds will be solely working alongside Open Minds staff whilst at the provision in line with our safeguarding procedures.

All staff receive regularly termly refresher training offered in-house by the DSL and also regular access to training courses offered through Hampshire and Isle of Wight Safeguarding partnership and isle of wight council.

Our Safeguarding and Child Protection policies are updated regularly in line with new government legislation and guidelines for best practice. All adults who come into contact with children and young people have a duty of care to safeguard and promote their welfare.

We understand safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children to mean:

Protecting children from maltreatment
Preventing impairment of children’s health or development
Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
Taking action to enable all children to have the best life chances.

We achieve a culture of safeguarding for all staff and young people through the following principles:
